Is two weeks' notice enough? -> guidelines for resigning

I was involved recently in a robust virtual discussion (fine, fine, it was the comments on a Facebook post) around the merits of giving more than the customary two weeks' notice when resigning from your job. You won't be surprised to learn that I have strong opinions on this topic.

This week's blog post dives deep into the pros and cons, and provides guidance on how to actually resign from your job. That is, assuming you are what we call an "at-will employee." Which I also explain in the post.

The last time I resigned from a job, I was working full-time juggling multiple HR consulting clients, so it was like resigning from five jobs at once. Imagine doing all that transition planning, TIMES FIVE! I shared a selfie, all wide-eyed and exhausted from the pace and volume of information I was processing. I kept it as a reminder to myself - I gave a couple days more than two weeks of notice that time, and I needed every bit of it, but in hindsight, I also prolonged the stress that much longer as well.

I won't do that again.
